SARATOK: MHH Betong team defeated Awik Tengah team in the final to emerge as champions of the inaugural 2nd Saratok Sepak Takraw Open tournament held at Gelanggang 1Malaysia Ulu Awik, here, on last Sunday.

Nevertheless, MHH Betong struggled against Awik Tengah before winning 21-16 and 21-17 to take home a cash prize of RM300, a trophy and medals.

Hosts Awik Tengah won a cash prize of RM200, a runner-up trophy and medals.

USPTN Saratok and Politeknik Betong finished joint third to receive a cash prize of RM100.

Meanwhile, sponsor of the tournament, Basil Thomas said he would continue to help and try to develop sepak takraw to unearth new talents as well as to strengthen unity among the youths to bring up the sport to a higher level.

“We also see the need for such tournament to be held for the development of the sport (takraw). Therefore, by using the club as an avenue to find and produce new talents for takraw, we find a lot of players whom we can sharpen their talents.

“Healthy social activities like this must be carried out more because it attracted the participation of other districts in Betong division,” he said.

The tournament, organised by Awik Saratok Recreational Sports Club, saw participation by 15 teams from Betong, Saratok, Roban, Krian among others.
