SIBU: Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian yesterday went for a site visit to Sibu Jaya and Kemuyang here.

He was accompanied by Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting, deputy chairman of Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) and Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch chairman Robert Lau Hui Yew, SUPP Dudong branch chairman Wong Ching Yong, and SUPP Bukit Assek chairman Datuk Chieng Buong Toon.

On the site visit to Sibu Jaya, Chieng checked on the constructions of the Darul Husna Mosque, the road heading towards Sibu Jaya, as well as the Rumah Spektra Permata (RSP) in Kemuyang.

Meanwhile, in a statement, Housing Development Corporation (HDC) said that the development of the mosque (Darul Husna) is to provide and compliment the needs of the Muslim community in the area, especially Sibu Jaya township as the existing surau is unable to accommodate the increasing number of congregation, especially on Fridays, Ramadan, Hari Raya Aidilfitri and other festivals.

The ground floor of the mosque comprises of a main prayer area, an imam’s room and a mihrab, two overflow areas, four washrooms with its own ablution space (three in the male area and one in the female area), one main ablution area, a kitchen, one mortuary and a VIP room with a proper washroom area.

“The first floor of the mosque comprises of a main prayer area, two overflow areas, three classrooms, a library, a meeting room, an office, a pantry and four washrooms (two in the male area and two in the female area) with its own ablution.”

“Both the mosque and hall are connected with a covered link bridge on the first floor where users could freely cross between the two main buildings. The hall has a spacious area with a stage integrated in it on the ground floor,” said HDC, adding that the hall could house 600 people (60 tables) whenever an event is being held.

The construction of the project started on May 3, 2019 and will be completed on August 2, 2020,” HDC added.
