BINTULU: The Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Arts is committed to improving the homestay tourism sector, particularly in Sarawak.

Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing stated that this effort will involve engaging rural communities in longhouses and villages.

As such, he stressed the importance of cleanliness to all participants of the homestay programme.

“In terms of facilities, luxurious amenities like air conditioning may not be necessary in this programme, especially in longhouses.

“What matters is that every homestay prioritises cleanliness, as this can attract tourists,” he said during the Tourism Awareness with Community programme at Rumah Pada Selan, Sungai Lalang, Tatau, on Sunday (Oct 29).

Also present were Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat Jubin and Engkilili assemblyman Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa.

Tiong, who is also Bintulu Member of Parliament added that the ministry is planning to organise courses and seminars in three zones in Sarawak next year aimed at those interested in this programme.
