SIBU: The Ministry of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development is looking into improving free tuition provided for by the state government via Yayasan Sarawak.

According to its deputy minister, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, the state government has allocated RM10 million for the programme in the 2023 state budget.

However, he pointed out that the programme and allocation do not come under MEITD, hence they will seek cooperation from Yayasan Sarawak on the effort.

“We are trying look at how to enhance that programme … I was told it was only for Form 5 students’ tuition, that is why I want to look into it.

“We will work together with Yayasan Sarawak on how to improve (the programme) using the allocation,” he said when met by reporters after the STEM 50 programme launching ceremony on Saturday (Nov 26).

Earlier in his speech, Dr Annuar expressed disagreement over tuition vouchers as there is no monitoring and feedback from others on the programme’s effectiveness.

“We will look into it to make sure it will be more effective,” he said.
