Miri Airport extension to increase passenger capacity by a million

THE proposed Miri Airport Optimisation Plan (airport extension plan) will increase the terminal capacity from two million passengers to three million passengers per annum.

Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said the proposed scope of works for the expansion comprises a new building extension and upgrading of the Rural Air Services area, additional new check-in counters, new offices area, signage and new baggage handling system.

“The estimated cost of the proposed optimisation plan under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) is RM60 million.

“Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin has assured that the project will be given priority project in obtaining allocation from the federal government under the 12MP,” he said.

He said this in a response to Adam Yii Siew Sang (GPS-Pujut)’s question regarding the expansion of Miri Airport during the Q&A session on the second day of the State Legislative Assembly sitting today.

In the meantime, Dr Jerip said his ministry and Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad (MAHB) are working together for a long-term plan to build a new international airport terminal in Miri.
