MIRI: Eatery operators and their workers are allowed to eat inside their own premises on the condition that they have the relevant documents as proof that they are operators or workers there.

This was said by Miri City Council (MCC), who said the documentation includes the council’s licence, certificate of health fitness of the workers, and food handling certificate.

In addition to that, eatery premises could only be allowed to provide a table and a few chairs which are to be used strictly by operators and workers during meals, said the council.

The council pointed out that tables and chairs should not be displayed inside the premises as well as outside the premises; particularly along five-foot-ways.

Only some chairs can be placed apart from each other at a reasonable distance for customers waiting to collect their take-away, the council said in a statement on Monday (May 24).

These two measures are attached to the latest standard operating procedures (SOPs) which only permit preparation of food and drinks for take-away, delivery or drive-through — no dine-in is allowed.

The council said that eatery operators who fail to comply with the above-mentioned additional conditions will have action taken against them such as the withdrawal of approval of business operations or any other related actions to be determined by the Miri Division Disaster Management Committee (MDDMC), police, and other enforcement agencies.

The additional conditions are imposed so as to specify the restriction in order to avoid any misunderstanding and unnecessary grievances.
