MIRI: Online registration for dog licences should be introduced in Sarawak to speed up data collection of the dog population as part of the strategies to control rabies outbreak in the state.

Miri mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang said the Local Government and Housing Ministry should consider the proposal as it would make the ongoing registration much simpler and quicker.

“Provide the option for an online registration system with the applicants only having to turn up to collect the dog tags or permits after payment,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

In addition, Yii suggested that the ministry review the application forms for dog licensing, pet shop licensing as well as dog breeder licensing by removing the requirement for the pictures of the licensed dog.

For the record, beginning Dec 1, the Sarawak government has enforced Local Authorities (Dog Licensing and Control) By-Laws 2018 for all 26 local authorities in the state.
