MIRI: The Welfare, Health and Community Sub-Committee (WH&CS) of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Miri Branch visited two families facing economic challenges in Tudan Desaras and Pujut Sungai Adong.

During the visits on Wednesday (Sept 13), the team provided support and raised awareness on various issues.

Sub-Committee chairman Dr Uma Devi delivered a brief talk covering topics such as the hazards of plastics, the importance of cleanliness, and healthy eating habits to educate the family members.

As part of their efforts to promote environmental awareness, the team distributed “SAY NO TO SINGLE-USED PLASTIC” stickers to emphasise the reduction of plastic usage. They also handed out stainless-steel food containers to highlight the dangers associated with plastic containers.

The stainless-steel food containers were generously donated by an anonymous group of donors, and Miri MRCS expressed its heartfelt appreciation for their contribution.

During the visit to the family in Sungai Adong, it was noted that two children were unable to attend school due to transportation and financial constraints.

The visits to underprivileged families are part of ongoing efforts by the WH&CS to support the local community. The committee hopes to encourage more volunteers to join these initiatives and contribute to making the community a better place.

The team that participated in the programme included Mary Thomas (WH&CS Committee member), Dayang Mariamah (MBM), Randai Miang (WH&CS coordinator) and Zaiful Abdullah (MRCS staff).
