TANJUNG MANIS: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained a tugboat and a barge, arresting six crew members on suspicion of committing various offences during an inspection last Sunday.

Tanjung Manis MMEA Zone Director Commander Gilbert Tinggak Numpang said that the offenses, committed under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952, include not having a valid domestic shipping license and failing to notify the authorities of a change in skipper.

Furthermore, the team arrested a skipper, three locals, and two Indonesians aged between 22 and 61, who were aboard the vessels.

The authorities escorted both vessels, along with the crew members, to the Tanjung Manis terminal jetty for further action.

In light of these events, Gilbert reminded the maritime community to adhere to all rules and laws during sea activities.

They can report any information, complaints, and emergency incidents at sea to the Tanjung Manis MMEA Operations Centre at 011-35728765.
