Moderate earthquake strikes Bonin Islands in Japan

A moderate earthquake measuring 5.1 magnitude struck the Bonin Islands in the Japan region at 12.32am on Wednesday (July 5).

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) assured that there is no threat of a tsunami to Malaysia as a result of the seismic event.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 450 kilometres, precisely located at coordinates 28.5 degrees north and 139.5 degrees east. It was approximately 712 kilometres south of Hamamatsu, Japan.
