Molester jailed for a year

KUCHING: A lorry driver was sentenced to 12 months ‘ jail by the Magistrate’s Court today (June 30) for molesting another man’s wife in a public toilet during a Gawai event.

The accused, Sukre, 47, pleaded guilty to the  charge under Section 354 of the Penal Code which was read before Magistrate Zaiton Anuar.

According to the charges, he groped the 47-year-old woman’s breasts and forced his private part into the victim’s mouth in a public toilet in Lundu at about 3.26 am on June 18.

Based on the facts of the case, at the time of the incident, the victim was attending a Gawai event and noticed a man, who was her husband’s friend, had followed her to the toilet.

In the toilet, Sukre pushed the victim before strangling her neck and hitting her head with his hands.

The accused then later attempted to rape the victim by folding her arms behind her back, pulling her hair and twisting her left leg apart from forcing her to suck his private part.

The victim managed to escape after kicking the accused and proceeded to make a police report which led to the arrest of the accused on the same day at about 7 am.

Further investigations revealed the accused was under the influence of alcohol and admitted to have committed the act against the victim.

Apart from that, a report by a medical officer confirmed that the victim suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident.

Zaiton ordered the accused to begin serving his prison sentence effective from the date of his arrest on June 18.

Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case while the accused was unrepresented by a legal counsel.
