KUCHING: Most, if not all, in the previous federal Cabinet will be retained under the new administration of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, said political commentator Prof Dr Jayum Jawan.

“He (Ismail) rose to become PM because of their unwavering support. That is only expected,” he said when asked to comment on whether or not Ismail Sabri would retain those in the previous federal Cabinet, or bring in new faces.

Prof Jayum, who is attached with Universiti Putra Malaysia, said old faces, regardless of whether or not they have performed would be brought back.

“They represent their respective political parties and they will be re-nominated by their respective party heads to represent their parties in the government.”

On the other hand, another political commentator, Datuk Peter Minos, said Ismail Sabri would surely give at least three full minister positions to Sarawak, considering Gabungan Parti Sarawak fully supported him for the premiership.

“If Sarawak ministers are given Works, Rural Development and Tourism portfolios, we will be very happy as those positions mean a lot to Sarawak.”

On the new Cabinet line-up, he said that some previous ministers who had performed well would be retained while new faces with the talents and ideas would be appointed.

“The prime minister needs leaders who are capable of handling the Covid-19 pandemic, revive the economy and restore Malaysia to peace and prosperity.”
