SIMANGGANG: Unique stories behind the history of the various districts in the state need to be preserved and passed on to the younger generation.
Member of Parliament for Batang Lupar, Mohamad Shafizan Kepli, said each area has its own history, some of which are less known, but nevertheless date back to the colonial era.
“For example, in Lingga, there is a 10-metre high pole that was built by Rajah Brooke in 1854 with history stating that Lingga was once used as an administrative fortress by Rajah Booke.
“The significance here is that the 169-year-old belian pole can become a tourist attraction that should be preserved and its story told to the new generation.
“Therefore, I think there are actually many more historical places or unique stories in the districts that should be told to the new generation,” he said at the Kembara Merdeka convoy divisional level dinner here, last night.
Shafizan said District Offices and Sub-District Offices in all areas play an important role in ensuring the perpetuity of such history.
The dinner was also attended by Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu.
Resident of Sri Aman Division Abang Mohamad Porkan Abang Budiman and Sri Aman District Officer Shariff Bujang were also present.
