KUCHING: Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen has requested the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to send a special investigative team to conduct a comprehensive probe into the recent death of a 22-year-old university student here.

The woman’s demise was believed to be due to substance abuse.

He emphasised that the objective of this request is to unearth the truth surrounding the circumstances leading to the woman’s death.

The case had initially been classified as a sudden death, with no evident signs of foul play, except for the revelation that the deceased’s urine test yielded positive results for three types of drugs.

“Since the investigating team in Kuching concluded the case swiftly as a sudden death, it would be more appropriate for the PDRM headquarters at Bukit Aman to dispatch another investigative team to Kuching for a more comprehensive inquiry.

“Therefore, I urge the police to execute a thorough investigation into this matter,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat at Kuala Lumpur yesterday (Oct 25).

Chong, who is Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman, emphasised that serious commitment to combatting drug abuse requires that the case be not resolved hastily.

The family of the deceased has also expressed doubts regarding the circumstances of their child’s death, initially attributed to drug abuse.

They had sought assistance from Chong to uncover the truth surrounding the incident.

Notably, the family’s scepticism was heightened when conflicting reports emerged. Initial accounts stated that the deceased was found in the Petanak area and died in an entertainment outlet.

However, two days later, the Kuching police issued a statement clarifying that the woman had been discovered unconscious by the roadside in the vicinity of an entertainment outlet.

Preliminary investigation conducted by the police yielded no indications of foul play, leading to the classification of the case as a sudden death.

According to the victim’s family, a urine test conducted on the deceased revealed the presence of three types of drugs, including Methamphetamine and MDMA.
