KUCHING: The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sarawak Chapter Tree Planting Day took place on yesterday (Oct 16).

The annual event was officiated at by MRCS Sarawak chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam, who was accompanied by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng and other guests.

Themed ‘Plant a Tree, Save Our Future’, Dr Chan said the objective of the programme was to increase environmental conservation awareness among members as well as the public.

“I am happy that MRCS Sarawak Chapter is again taking the lead in promoting tree planting and has a day each year specially for the tree planting campaign. We initiated this annual tree planting day in 2019,” he said at the launch of the event in Tabuan Jaya here.

Dr Chan disclosed that last year, MRCS members embarked on a ‘Start from Home’ tree planting.

“Participants were encouraged to capture their home tree planting activities on video for a competition and the response was encouraging.”
