SIBU: A guitarist of an Iban rock band Tamang Raja, Febrenus Harry Usup, 36, died in an accident in Jalan Poi-Majau in Kanowit on Tuesday night.

Police from Kanowit station rushed to the scene upon receiving a call from a member of the public of an accident 6.15pm.

Known by his stage name Fred Venus, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by medical team from Kanowit Hospital.

Kanowit OCPD deputy Superintendent Tega Bilong said at the time of the accident, the victim was travelling alone from Ngemah to Sibu when he lost control of his car and crashed into a drain at an area in Sungai Poi, Jalan Majau.

“The rescue team that arrived at the scene found the victim unconscious. He died on the spot,” he said.

Febrenus leaves behind a wife and a five-month-old baby boy.

Febrenus, together with five other members of the band Tamang Raja, was popular with such hits as ‘Tikas Pengerindu’, ‘Nama Kebuah Nuan Enda Madah’ and ‘Asai Ka Gila’.

The song ‘Asai Ka Gila’ was at No. 1 of Cats FM Top 10 in April last year. Another song ‘Tikas Pengerindu’ won the Anugerah Carta Sapa Juara 2016 (ACSJ 2016).
