LUNDU: The Opposition needs to stick to the unity government’s directives on allocations for opposition MPs, says Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

She said while there may be general discussions within the cabinet, only those directly involved in the negotiations are privy to the specifics.

As representatives from the Opposition have engaged in dialogue with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Nancy she was confident that the process would not pose a significant hurdle.

“I feel that it (the allocation for the Opposition) is not a problem. They just need to adhere to what is desired by the unity government.

“The issue has been subject to extensive discussions, and now we are focusing on the mechanisms.

“The nature of these deliberations necessitates a thorough examination, including questions and answers, rather than a simple determination of what allocations will be provided and how they will be utilised,” she told reporters after visiting the Search and Rescue (SAR) operation for a crocodile victim at Kampung Sungai Rayu here today.

Yesterday, Bernama reported that Fadillah announced that the unity government secretariat supreme leadership council had agreed in principle to consider extending allocations to elected representatives from the Opposition.

The Petra Jaya MP, who also serves as the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, said a preliminary memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be drafted and presented to the Opposition for further deliberation.

Fadillah, who holds the position of unity government chief whip, disclosed that this consensus was reached during a meeting of the council held at Sri Perdana in Putrajaya on Wednesday (Apr 17).

Chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the session which lasted over an hour saw the participation of key leaders from component parties within the unity government.
