KUCHING: Give constructive views and criticism, instead of inciting and sowing hatred just because of a difference of opinion in developing the country’s tourism industry, appealed Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing to netizens.

He said that not every issue needs to be linked to any religion because it will only make this country look like extremists that invite fear of foreign tourists.

“This is the best time for us to join hands and unite to develop the country, especially in stimulating economic growth through the tourism sector.

“I always welcome open views and have received various comments and criticisms from netizens lately.

“Nevertheless, I hope that social media users need to be careful in giving any views or criticism, because the original objective of social media is to improve the communication process in a matter, instead of making it a platform to blindly ‘hit’ other parties without facts and solid foundation,” he said in his Facebook post, recently.

For example, he said efforts to improve the airport as the first image of our country to the international community where initiatives such as providing translators for foreign tourists from the Middle East, China and India at the entrance of the country are aimed to facilitate matters and processes upon the arrival of foreign tourists so that the efficiency of the country’s management can be guaranteed and praised.

“And also, with the suggestion we can study and learn from Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries that are expanding and advancing their tourism sector.
“They are seen to be very open and welcome the presence of foreign tourists, especially from Western countries. This is their way to develop their tourism sector.

“Therefore, once again I appeal, give constructive views and criticism, instead of inciting and sowing hatred just because of a difference of opinion until linking it to an inappropriate religious issue,” he told.
