KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 239 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday (Nov 23), almost 100 more cases compared to the previous day’s 147 cases.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 237 of the total number of cases comprised Categories 1 and 2 while two were of Categories 3, 4 and 5.

Kuching accounted for the highest number of cases at 65 followed by Miri (46); Beluru (45); Sibu (19); Serian (15); Bintulu (nine); Lawas (eight); Mukah, Limbang, and Samarahan (six each) and Sarikei (three).

Two new cases each were reported in Lundu, Daro and Dalat while Kapit, Bau, Tanjung Manis, Subis, and Bukit Mabong recorded one case each.

Meanwhile, the SDMC also revealed two fatalities in the Sibu district on Nov 19 and Nov 20.

“The death on Nov 19 involved a 77-year-old man who had a history of high blood pressure and dyslipidemia while the death recorded on the day after was that of a 68-year-old man who had a history of diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

“Both men passed away at the Sibu Hospital,” it said.

The committee also announced that to date, there were six active clusters in Sarawak.
