KUCHING: Kampung Tringgus, Serembu here will soon have a new church — the St Sylvester Tringgus Catholic Church.
According to Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh, the first phase of the church was initially built using an allocation of RM300,000 under his Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) fund in 2018.
“For the second phase of the construction, a total of RM200,000 was allocated and for the third phase, another RM100,000 was given by Unit for Other Religions (Unifor),” he told New Sarawak when contacted on Sunday (Oct 11).
He said the villagers also pitched in with the church’s construction work, making it a gotong-royong (communal work) effort.
“The church is currently 95 percent completed and will require touch-ups before it is fully completed,” he said.
Miro added this new church can accommodate up to 600 worshippers at one time.
