SARATOK: The proposed Anjung Rehat Saratok, to be developed in front of the Government Rest House, will offer more than just temporary lodging.

Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri announced that a total allocation of RM6mil under the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA) will be utilised for this purpose.

“The concept is similar to the Anjung Rehat Simunjan…our plan is to have three deluxe rooms and three standard rooms. Additionally, we will provide space for the local community to hold activities such as seminars, courses, and various youth programmes.”

He mentioned that BDDA chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has agreed in principle to the project, which, upon completion, will become a new landmark in Saratok town.

Mohamad pointed out that the objective is to facilitate not only locals but also outsiders.

“Nowadays, patients receiving treatment at Saratok Hospital are mostly from outside the area, and surely their families or relatives need temporary accommodation. They can choose Anjung Rehat Saratok at a reasonable price, which will not be too burdensome,” he said yesterday.

While the proposal is still in its early stages, efforts will be made to proceed as soon as possible.

“Today, we conducted a site visit together with representatives from the Public Works Department (JKR), Saratok District Office, and BDDA…we hope to commence construction this year.”

Regarding management, maintenance, and rental rates, Mohamad stated that details will be finalised later.

“I don’t anticipate any issues regarding land or other matters. Hopefully, our sincere intention to enhance facilities in Sarawak town will be facilitated.”

For reference, the Anjung Rehat Simunjan managed by the Simunjan District Council offers two deluxe rooms at a rate of RM120 per night, along with several standard rooms available at RM80 per night.
