KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg received a courtesy call from the new director of Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Sarawak Region, First Maritime Admiral Zin Azman Md Yunus at his office at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here on Friday (Nov 20).

The visit was Zin’s first visit after assuming office on Oct 6. He previously served as the Senior Assistant Director General in the Operations Training Section Division at MMEA Headquarters.

During the visit, he informed the chief minister on the success of the operation carried out by MMEA Sarawak throughout the year in thwarting attempts by illegal immigrants (Pati) from neighbouring countries to enter the state through Ops Benteng.

According to Zin, there have been no cases of encroachment by Pati so far and MMEA also managed to thwart attempts and expel foreign boats from entering Sarawak waters.

Zin also informed that MMEA Sarawak has received additional assets namely a new patrol ship, KM Kota Kinabalu from Port Klang which is the second ship from the New Generation Patrol Craft (NGPC) class to ensure Sarawak’s waters are constantly monitored.
