New Sarawak Tribune reporters shine at Kenyalang Journalism Awards 2023

MIRI: Seven outstanding reporters from New Sarawak Tribune showcased their prowess at the Kenyalang Journalism Awards (KJA) 2023, securing a total of eight awards across various categories.

Deputy chief reporter Sarah Hafizah Chandra garnered a gold award for Sustainability Journalism—a notable contribution to New Sarawak Tribune’s achievements.

The team’s excellence continued with four silver awards. Feature writer Priscilla Tawie Sulok one silver for Journalism Award (Feature and News Feature), while reporter Gabriel Lihan Apat Ferguson secured the Community Well-being Journalism Award.

Chief Reporter Natasha Chrystal Jee Ching Foong and Reporter Alexandra Lorna Nohan jointly earned the Digital Economy Journalism Award.

Furthermore, the team received three bronze awards. Reporter Jacintha Jolene Ahi was honoured in the Digital Economy Journalism Award category, while Reporter Noor Syahhira Hady excelled in Sports Reporting and Journalism Award (Feature and News Feature).

Suara Sarawak, the sister publication, made a remarkable impression, amassing a whopping 27 awards in 11 categories—nine gold, eight silver, and 10 bronze—at the 35th Kenyalang Journalism Awards.

This year’s KJA saw a total of 353 entries from all media in Sarawak competing, vying for a total cash prize of RM250,000.

The awards ceremony witnessed the presence of Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, representing the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Also in attendance were Deputy Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting and Federation Sarawak Journalists Association (FSJA) president Andy Jong Wan Joon.
