New workplace cluster declared in state

KUCHING: One new Covid-19 cluster was declared by the State Health Department yesterday (May 24).

“The cluster, dubbed the Selumit cluster, is a workplace cluster involving a public service agency located in the government administrative centre in Selumit, Tanjung Manis in Mukah district,” said the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

The committee said 91 individuals were screened as part of active case detection. 

“Eleven cases tested positive including the index case; 33 cases were negative while 47 cases are still awaiting laboratory results.

“All the positive cases were referred to the Sibu Hospital and were admitted to low-risk treatment centres (PKRC) in Sibu district for isolation and further treatment,” it said in a statement yesterday.

SDMC said the Selumit Cluster was the 85th cluster currently active in the state.

“Seven clusters have recorded 45 new cases,” it added.

SDMC also announced that the Julau district had turned red after 59 new cases were reported there yesterday.

The Kabong district is now yellow after four new cases were detected there yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Matu and Limbang districts are now green, bringing the total number of green districts to three. 

 Currently, there are nine yellow districts, three orange districts and 25 red districts.
