12 held in anti-drug raid at Merapok CIQ

KUCHING: 12 people were detained by National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) officers after they were found positive for methamphetamine during an integrated operation at Merapok Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex (CIQ) in Limbang.

State AADK Director, Wan Madihi Wan Salleh said the three-day operation involved 15 AADK officers from Limbang, Miri and Bintulu.

“This integrated operation is carried out together with the Immigration Department, Road Transport Department (RTD), Royal Malaysian Customs Department and Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

“A total of 57 people were checked and 12 tested positive for methamphetamine,” he said in a press statement on Wednesday.

Wan Madihi said of the 12 individuals arrested, 11 of them would be investigated under Section 3 (1) of the Drug Dependants Act 1983 while the other one would be investigated under Section 6 (3) of the same Act.

“No drugs were seized in this operation,” he added.
