KUCHING: Chung Hua Middle School (CHMS) No. 1 will be holding their 60th anniversary dinner at the CHMS No. 1 Sports Field, Pending Road here on Aug 18 (Saturday).

The guest-of-honor at the dinner will be Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, Minister of Local Government and Housing, who will be representing Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Called the ‘818 Homecoming Dinner’ it will be attended by some 3,000 people including alumnis, guests, performers and student helpers. The dinner will commence at 6.30 pm.

“As of today, we have sold all of our tickets. In addition, 254 tables will be placed at the dinner, which has exceeded our target of having 250 tables,” Peter Ho, the organising chairman said in a press conference on Wednesday.

Ho added that initially, they wanted to host the dinner at the school hall but due to the large number of tables, the venue has been shifted to the sports field.

He also informed that the alumnis and guests are encouraged to come early to the dinner in order to avoid traffic jams and limited parking spaces.

“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the alumnis and corporate bodies for their support and sponsorship towards this event,” he added.

Lucas Yong, the President of CHMS No. 1 Alumni Association Kuching said there will be a number of side activities at the dinner. They include exhibitions, singing performances, cultural dances, choirs, and a time capsule for the alumnis and guests to write their messages.

The messages, he explained, will be kept in the capsule for 40 years, to be opened during the CHMS No. 1 100th Year Anniversary celebration.

“My deepest apologies to the residents nearby for the noise as the performers are now practicing for the dinner event,” Ho added.

CHMS No. 1 Alumni Association Kuching is looking forward to all the alumnis to attend the dinner event.
