TANJUNG MANIS: The Sarawak Forest Department’s enforcement team, located in Tanjung Manis, had successfully put a brake on the momentum of smuggling activities when they seized a total of 425 suspected illegal logs at Sungai Sepasu, Batang Belawai near here on Wednesday morning.

Public tip-off and the efficiency of the enforcement officers have been attributed to the success in such convulsion. Preliminary examination found out that all the illegal timber did not have any property marks or government tax sign. However, no suspect or heavy machinery was found during the raid.

The case will be referred to under Sect ion 90 (1) of the Forests Ordinance 2015 (Cap.71) which is the unauthorised collection of forest produce whereby the accused could be fined of not less than RM 25,000 but not exceeding RM150,000 or imprisonment not exceeding five years or both upon conviction.

The Sarawak Forest Department appeals to public members with any information or find any suspicious logging activity in their area to contact the Sarawak Forest Department Hotline at 1-800-88-777.
