MIRI: A huge fire destroyed a warehouse storing various plastic items including mattresses at Miri Bypass road yesterday, causing plumes of smokes encompassing the vicinity.

Two teams from Lopeng and Miri fire stations led by the operation commander, PKPgB Terry Robson were mobilised to the scene in response to an emergency alert on the incident around 2.45pm.

Also present at the scene was Miri Fire and Services Department Chief Supt Law Poh Kiong.

Upon arrival at the scene, firemen made the necessary measures to prevent the blaze from reaching adjacent warehouses.

Fortunately there was no report of injuries or casualties on the incident.

Firemen battled the flames for 20 minutes before finally getting the fire under control.

Nevertheless, the fire destroyed 90 per cent of the warehouse building.

The actual cause of the incident has yet to be determined as investigations are underway.

According to some workers of the nearby warehouse, they were unaware of the incident, until they saw plumes of smokes coming out from the burning building.
