ICAAS 2017 takes Place aug 21–22

KUCHING: The International Conference on Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Sarawak (ICAAS) 2017 will be held from    August 21-22,  2017 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here.

The conference is a collaborated effort between the Sarawak State Government, through the Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land, and Regional Development and the Department of Veterinary Services, and supported by the Sarawak Development Institute (SDI) as the conference secretariat.

The ICAAS 2017 will feature exhibitions of the various agriculture and agro-based industry products from government agencies and private corporations, both locally and overseas.

Government agencies such as the Department of Agriculture (DOA), the Department of Veterinary Services, the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA), and many more will be highlighting their innovative and renowned products.

Well-known brand names such as CCK, Gold Coin, PPES Ternak, and many more will also showcase their items which range from imaging systems to food products.

The exhibition will also feature the Sarawak Pavillion, a special showcase on Sarawak products by 12 government agencies;  among the products  are live exhibits of the famous Empurau, Semah, and Tengadak fish, and food products such as Dabai, Terung Asam, Bario rice, Kelulut honey, and many more fromthe DOA.

The Department of Veterinary Services will feature a cooking demonstration on edible bird’s nest while the Malaysian Rubber Board will display latex drawings.

Many more assorted food products such as AgroMas brand’s black pepper sauce, Sarawak Laksa paste, and white coffee, SaraSpice brand’s pepper candy and perfume, MARDI’s Kek Lapis Sihat (Healthy Layered Cake), SaraChocs brand’s chocolate and much more will be available.

Plants and fruit produce such as the MD2 and other local varieties of pineapple by the Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (MPIB) and the best oil palm varieties by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) will also be showcased.

The Malaysia Handicraft Development Corporation will display heritage crafts of woven mats, Iban potteries and the pua kumbu whereas the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) will feature its LitSara products.

There are a number of activities that visitors to the exhibition can take part in such as guessing the number of fish fry and guessing the weight of fishes – Semah fish for Day 1 and Empurau Fish for Day 2 ;   the grand prize will  be to take home the prized fishes.

There will also be a plant propagation demonstration on how to do budding for the Musang King variety durian plant where visitors stand a chance to bring home the plants. Other attractive prizes are also offered for lucky visitors and also for trying out the Wheel of Fortune at the exhibition.

Members of the public are most welcome to visit and patronise the various exhibition booths which

will open from 8.00am to 6.00pm on the two conference days.
