MIRI: High tide, big waves and heavy rain which hit this city last Tuesday night caused many lowlying areas to be flooded.

Among the flooded areas were Kampung Api-Api, Kampung Sealine, Pujut Tanjong Batu, Kampung Wireless and Kuala Baram Batu Satu.

Strong winds and big waves followed by the overflowing of seawater also caused fishing boats berthed at Kuala Baram Batu Satu to be slightly damaged.

The 9pm incident caused some fishermen to move their boats and fishing gears to a much safer place for fear of being damaged by the big waves. Several houses in Kampung Api-Api and Kampung Sealine were also flooded up to knees.

However, the condition was under control. The strong winds and big waves also caused two barges to drift on the coast of Tanjong Lobang.

The check also found that some trees at the Tanjong Lobang beach were uprooted.
