Nabbed for abusing two infants

SIBU: Cruel! This best describes  the actions of a caretaker towards two infants, aged nine months and one-and-half-years old.

Sibu District Police Chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit yesterday said the police had arrested a woman at her home in Jalan Permai here to assist in the investigations into the abuse of two infants. 

“The 39-year-old suspect was arrested after the infants’ parents lodged police reports against her when they noticed their babies’ injuries and found them to be suspicious.

“We received a report from the father of the nine-month-old infant who found his son to be in a weakened condition after fetching him from the caretaker’s house.

“Acting on the report, the caretaker was arrested and her handphone was confiscated for investigation purposes, “he explained.

It is learnt that the suspect takes care   of five children aged between nine months and three years at her home.

Stanley said the infant’s parents who worked as teachers had sent him to the caretaker’s house at 5.30am that day and then they received a phone call from the suspect around noon, informing them that their baby was  having difficulty breathing.

“The couple then rushed their baby to the Sibu Hospital Emergency Unit to undergo further treatment.

“Sibu Hospital Neuro Surgical expert confirmed that the infant was suffering from bleeding. The inner part of the brain and both eyes were swollen and there was a bone fracture on the left side of the head.

The victim, who is also the youngest of three siblings, is reported to be in a critical condition and is still unconscious.

Meanwhile, the second case involving the suspect was reportedly around 6.39pm yesterday after the victim’s mother found bloodstains on her baby’s lips before taking him to the hospital for treatment.
