Sarawak exploring collaboration with Singapore in digitalisation

SINGAPORE: Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg is currently leading a state delegation on a two-day working visit to Singapore. Yesterday, he met with the Republic’s Deputy Prime Minister, Tharman Shanmugaratnam at a renowned hotel.

Johari, along with his delegation who arrived here on Sunday, is on a mission to explore possibilities of collaboration with the Singapore government in the field of digitalisation.

Johari and Tharman had a brief discussion before adjourning to lunch at the same hotel hosted by the Singapore Deputy Prime Minister.

Also present at the lunch were Malaysia’s High Commissioner to Singapore, Dato’ Zulkifli Adenan as well as members of Sarawak’s delegation including Deputy Chief Ministers, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, and Tan Sri Datuk Amar James Jemut Masing, State Secretary, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, and Deputy State Secretary, Datu Sabariah Haji Putit.

Yesterday morning, the State Secretary led a delegation comprising board members of Sarawak Multi-Media Authority (SMA) in a visit to Singapore’s Smart Nation and Digital Government (SNDGO) office where they were given a briefing.

The SNDGO, under the Prime Minister’s Office, plans and prioritises key Smart Nation Projects, drives the digital transformation of government, builds long-term capabilities for the public sector, and promotes adoption and participation from the public and industries, to take a collective approach in building a Smart Nation.

Later in the afternoon, Johari and Masing were joined by the members of the delegation to call on the Singapore Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) to attend a briefing and given a tour of the premises.

The IMDA is a statutory body that develops and regulates the converging info communications and media sectors in a holistic manner, creating a dynamic and exciting sector filled with opportunities for growth, through an emphasis on talent, research, innovation and enterprise especially among the SMEs in Singapore.
