SERIAN: Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research, Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong officiated at the earth-breaking ceremony of new four-storey classroom building of SJK (C) Tapah, yesterday.

Manyin was representing the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.  Also present was Assistant Minister of Native Land Development, Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn.

“I was informed that this school has been established since 1942. There are 29 teachers and 398 pupils including some who are Bumiputera.

“The State Government is always concerned on the need to develop the school to facilitate and provide a comfortable and conducive teaching and learning environment for students. Until today, the government is still putting efforts to develop and upgrade the schools to facilitate the increasing number of student population every year,” said Johari in his text of speech read by Manyin.

Johari added the two old classroom blocks of the school are no longer conducive to cater for the student population. Therefore, the SJK (C) Tapah Teachers and Parents Association (TPA) chairman Chong Kuet Fah and the school management board, Bong Joon Khin had worked hard to look for fund and donation to build the new building since last two years.

“Their effort is much appreciated and it is hoped that everyone will cooperate and assist the school to gain more donation for this project to succeed,” the Chief Minister pointed out.

For the record, Johari has already allocated RM500,000 to this school early this year.

Meanwhile, Chong in his speech said the RM3 million project comprised two phases namely, 26 classrooms housed by a four-storey building which costs RM2 million and the construction of the school field and basketball open court, that costs RM1 million.

“The project starts right after the earth breaking ceremony and the cost may increase, depending on the current situation and condition,

“Up to date, we have collected RM1.3 million gained from the government, a donation from concerned authority and non-government organisations (NGOs), as well as the public and parents,

“Hopefully we will able to achieve the targeted cost of project and a generosity from public is needed to make this project succeed for the benefit of our children in the future,” he pointed out.
