MIRI: A woman was injured on her left shoulder after being hit by pellets from a gunshot fired by her own brother in an amuk incident at a house in Taman Tunku, in Miri Thursday evening.

In the 10.30pm incident, the 46-year-old victim was shot from behind while attempting to run towards a neighbour’s house to escape from the amuk culprit.

A source said the brother fired the home-made gun from a distance of about 50 metres. It was said the pellets from the gunshot also hit the neighbour’s fence and a car parked outside the house.

District Police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah confirmed the incident and pointed out the 36-year-old suspect had been taken under police custody for further investigation.

Police have seized the shotgun used by the suspect in the shooting.

“Our initial investigation found out that the suspect ran amuk inside their house and punched his family members.

“When the victim was trying to run away from their house, the suspect fired the gun towards her, wounding the sister on the shoulder,” Lim said when speaking to reporters in Miri. He added the victim was then rushed to Miri Hospital for further treatment and was in a stable condition.
