KUCHING: Through the vision of the Ministry of Sports, Sarawak is on the road to achieving its status as sports powerhouse of the nation soon.
This is evident from the achievements of its sports people, including the disabled athletes who had done done the State and nation proud in both local and international competitions.
In congratulating the sports associations, athletes and sports officials nominated for the Sarawak sports presentation awards, Sarawak Sports Corporation Chief Executive Officer Dr Ong Kong Swee paid tributes to their efforts in raising the level of sports in Sarawak.
The achievements of the Sarawak athletes nominated for the awards were of very high standard which has become the bernchmark for the Sarawak sports people, the coaches, officials to emulate and strive to achieve.
“The achievements of the winners of the awards have reached very high standard which is something in which the local sports fraternity should be very proud of.
“This goes to show that the Ministry aim and vision for Sarawak to achieve the sports powerhouse of the nation is in good hands.
‘I would like to congratulate all the sports people, coaches and clubs nominated for the awards and not forgetting also the Paralympic athletes.
“We also include the coaches, sports leaders and associations which are very important to the development of sports in the State.
‘This award presentation is organised to honour and recognise the individual sports people and clubs who are very deserving for their achievements,” said Ong.
The Sarawak Sports presentation award 2015-2016 was held by the Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS to reward athletes, officials, associations for their achievements in sports in the year 2015 and 2016.
Among the top athletes nominated for this presentation award included national diving sensation Pandelela Rinong Pamg who won the silver medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016, SEA Games star swimmer Sim wee Sheng, athletics young star Grace Wong, wushu gold medallist Loh Jach Chang, Diana Bong Siong Lin and top Sarawak sprinter Jonathan Nyepa.
