KUCHING: Even after his demise 10 months ago, the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem or “Tok Nan” as he was fondly known to Sarawakians, is still being remembered for his many people-centric policies during his tenure as Chief Minister of Sarawak.

Such a feeling was obvious among the State Assemblymen, from the Barisan National and opposition, who are currently attending the State Legislative Assembly sitting.

David Wong (DAP-Pelawan) said among Adenan’s most notable contributions was that he had revised electricity tariff structure for the domestic, commercial and industrial sectors to cushion the rising cost of living of the people.

He also commended the former Chief Minister for abolishing payment on certain land-quit rents which had brought a huge impact on the people.

“During his stint as the Chief Minister, he implemented peoplefriendly policies. He won the hearts (of Sarawakians) especially those in urban areas, through moves like the abolition of toll for the bridges, acceleration development in the suburban areas as well as reducing the premium payments for agricultural and residential land, among others.

“This is the kind of leadership that Sarawakians put their faith in and willing to work together with,” Wong said when debating the State Budget 2018 during the State Legislative Assembly sitting here yesterday.
