KUCHING: Hope Place has offered assistance to Yong Hua Kuong, a 75-year old man from Bintulu, who is experiencing gallstone complications.
In a press release issued by Hope Place, Yong was diagnosed with ascending cholangitis, a condition involving gallstones in his bile duct, back in August.
Doctors are still contemplating on whether or not to do surgery, and Yong has to undergo several more tests at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
Currently, Yong is awaiting for his test results, expected to be out somewhere in October.
He can still sit and walk, despite being very weak physically and he is also currently on tube feeding.
“Unable to speak properly, Yong only mumbles in a hoarse voice and alongside him is his son, Choong, 48, who takes care of all his needs,” the statement read.
Choong told Hope Place that his father’s sickness—and being in Kuching for a long period—have taken a toll on their family.
Choong works as a storekeeper in Bintulu, and he is worried and unsure whether or not he still has a job when he goes back.
“It’s been nearly two months and I’m not sure when my father will be well again to go back home. Everything is so uncertain,” he said.
Choong’s 45-year old brother, Hui, is bedridden due to a stroke, and taking care of him is Choong’s 72-year old mother.
“Choong would regularly call his mother in Bintulu, anxious about her coping with things and being the only breadwinner, Choong is worried for his family’s future,” said the statement.
Hope Place is supporting Yong with a supply of special milk supplements for his whole duration at SGH.
