Night Market temporarily relocated to allow upgrading works

SIBU: Upgrading works of existing Night Market trading site at the Butterfly Garden have started and traders have been relocated to temporary site starting from 1st November this year.

According to chairman of Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) Datuk Tiong Thai King, the traders at the night market trading site at the Butterfly Garden have been relocated to temporary site which is the previous night market trading site at Market Road car park along Market Road and High Street starting from 1st November 2017.

“The upgrading works are done to resolve some shortcomings at the current site such as lack of proper drainage system, stagnant water after heavy downpour and lighting.

“The works are expected to finish within 10 weeks but is currently behind schedule because of the bad weather condition,” he said.at the full council meeting at SMC office in Sibu on Wednesday. Tiong said the council is working hard to get the works done as scheduled so that everyone including traders and customers may be able to benefit and enjoy the newly upgraded night market trading site.

Meanwhile, on the prohibition of driving on newly tar-sealed back lanes, he said back lanes were constructed to provide safe pathway for pedestrians to walk far from the busy road.

“Therefore, I wish to advise the public not to drive their vehicles especially small vehicles that can fit in the back lanes such as motorcycles and bicycles into the newly tar-sealed back lanes,” he said. He said this conduct not only endangers the pedestrians but also would cause damages to the lanes.
