KUCHING: There is a possibility that Parti Bangsa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB) may not contest in the upcoming Pujut By-election.

Its acting youth chief, Rapelson Richard Hamit said the party would let the seat be contested by Chinese parties.

“But nevertheless, PBDSB will not stop its members from helping Chinese opposition parties to fight any Chinese party from Barisan Nasional that contests,” Rapelson said.

“In the meantime, we will be having our candidate on standby for any eventuallity,” he said.

However, according to Rapelson, the official statement on the matter will be made by the party’s president.

Before this, PBDSB had stated that in the coming G24, it would be contesting in at least 17 Dayak-majority seats.

The seats are Puncak Borneo, Mas Gading, Serian, Sri Aman, Betong,  Lubok Antu,  Bintulu, Limbang, Lawas, Mukah, Baram, Kapit, Hulu Rajang, Selangau, Julau, Saratok and Kanowit.

The Pujut state seat was left vacant following the disqualification of  incumbent  DUN Member, Dr Ting Tiong Choon of DAP  by the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly on 12 May over claims that he held an Australian citizenship.
