Anti-rabies operations do come with its hazards

KUCHING: A 36-year-old member of the Anti-Rabies Operations team was recently bitten by a dog while another, 29, accidentally poked himself with a dart.

The incidents occurred during an operation conducted in Serian.

In the third mishap, this time in Simunjan, a 26-year-old veterinarian accidentally poked herself with a tranquiliser dart when she sneezed.

All three were given immediate treatment and had been given a clean bill of health.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas disclosed this yesterday when he attended the post-mortem meeting for anti-rabies operations done in Serian and Simunjan Districts from June 20-24 recently.

He also advised all team members for the coming operations in Sri Aman, Lubok Antu and Betong to take the utmost care when carrying out their duties to prevent such mishaps.

He reiterated his call for all those involved to get themselves vaccinated at least 14 days before the operations, which will begin on July 31 until Aug 5.
