KUCHING: The dedicated efforts of the State Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA Sarawak) in promoting fire safety have yielded positive results, with no reported fire incidents during the recent Chinese New Year celebrations.

BOMBA Sarawak director Datuk Khirudin Drahman said this achievement is also evident during the celebration of other festivities.

“We are very grateful that our efforts through various advocacy and educational programs are well-received by the public throughout Sarawak.

“This is contributing to the goal of building a disaster-resilient community, which the department strives to achieve.

“During the recent flash flood incident, we witnessed the public’s ability to respond appropriately.

“They not only cooperated with BOMBA Sarawak’s personnel but also with other authorities on duty,” he said.

He said this during the BOMBA Sarawak Chinese New Year lunch engagement yesterday (Feb 27) at the department’s headquarters.

The lunch engagement, organised to commemorate the recently concluded Chinese New Year celebration, was also attended by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian and over 80 BOMBA Sarawak personnel.

“The good and close relationship between BOMBA Sarawak and the media fraternity has enabled the public to access and be aware of what we are doing,” he said.

At the same time, Khirudin expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the state government and Dr. Sim for their support of the department.

“We appreciate the support from the state government, which comes in various forms,” he added.
