KUCHING: Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB) will not impose a financial penalty on its candidates for party hopping after being elected.

PBDSB spokesperson Sai Malaka said the party believes that its candidates are trustworthy, with integrity and credibility.

“However, if the elected representative wins through the PBDSB mandate and jumps to other parties, they are required to vacate their seats immediately,” he said, adding that agreements and pledges will be made before the election and will be signed by all potential candidates who will contest.

He said this in a statement issued on Monday (Oct 5).

Additionally, Sai also urged the state government to postpone the upcoming state election in view of the increase in Covid-19 positive cases nationwide.

He emphasised that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg should not rush into holding the state election in soon time.

“Sarawak politics is seen as very stable and for PBDSB, political interests can be postponed.

“What is more important now is to address the growing concern of Covid 19,” he added.

Apart from that, he suggested that the state government, Ministry of Health (MOH) and Local Government and Housing Ministry should hold seminars at longhouses and rural areas before the state election to brief the people on standard operating procedures (SOPs) compliance.
