IPOH: The Perak Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumerism (KPDNHEP) Perak has so far not received any complaints from the public of a price increase in school items, including black shoes.

Perak Health, Consumer Affairs, National Integration and Human Resource Committee chairman A Sivanesan said although school items were not in the category of controlled goods, stern action would be taken against traders who increased prices indiscriminately.

He said any trader found guilty of this would be charged under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.

“Between Dec 22 and yesterday, 187 enforcement officers including 83 price monitoring officers have carried out checks on 242 premises in the state which sell school items and eight notices issued under the Act,” he said.

Sivanesan was speaking to reporters after conducting a check of school items sold at a supermarket in Meru here yesterday with the state KPDNHEP chief enforcement officer Shamsul Nizam Khalil.

Sivanesan said the checks were carried out to ensure traders abided by the law and to prevent indiscriminate price increase.
