KUCHING: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s recent remark about giving Sarawak back 20 per cent in oil royalty as ‘not workable’ is a flimsy excuse, says Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth Central secretary-general Milton Foo.

Dr Mahathir also said in New York that the federal government realised that giving back 20 per cent would mean Petronas would no longer become the international oil company it is today.

“These two recent revelations not only exhibit the willful ignorance and deep unwillingness to fulfill its election manifesto on the part of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government but also show a blatant disrespect to Sarawak’s plea as an equal partner in the federation of Malaysia.

“This has been a timely reminder to us all as Sarawakians…to know who’s on our side and who’s not. This shows that Chong (Chieng Jen) is only for Malaya and not Sarawak,” he said.

Chong is Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, and Sarawak PH and Sarawak DAP chairman.

Foo said this exposed the incontrovertible fact that the current federal government was only Malaya-centric and was well prepared to equip themselves with all sorts of lame excuses to veto the needs of Sarawak rather than acceding to its requests.

“It is also proven that PH will not do anything good for Sarawak but to destroy us for their own prospering and enrichment at the expense of Sarawak.”

Foo also questioned whether Sarawak PH would fight for the state’s rights and the interests of its people.
