MIRI: The Northern Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA) is holding its first Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2022 Photography Competition.

According to Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, the competition’s objective is to promote the Ramadan and Hari Raya atmosphere in Miri through social media platforms in the hope of contributing to the tourism industry during the COVID-19 period.

“This will also enhance Miri’s tourism by marketing the city as a tourism or resort city with the theme of Miri Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“The elements cover architecture, cultural customs and natural landscapes in order to convey the festive atmosphere of the celebration as well as to showcase Sarawak’s multi-ethnic, cultural and religious festival in harmony with one another.

“We can capture images of the surrounding environment of Miri City with a festive atmosphere while we enjoy the festival.

“This will help to promote interesting places (in Miri) and participants will be able to play an important role in marketing the city as a tourism destination,” he said yesterday.

“The date for submission by email is from April 16 to May 16. After the closing date, the organiser will upload the submitted photos to ‘NSJA MIRI’ official Facebook page for the public and judges to vote and score for the Most Liked & Share Contest,” he explained.

He also commended and thanked the NSJA for their Miri Tourism City social responsibility programme.

“I fully support the organisation of this competition since it aims to introduce and promote Miri City as a tourism destination,” he pointed out.
