KUCHING: Real World Visuals, a company based in United Kingdom is committed to help a wider audience have a better understanding of science through engaging data visualisation.

Its chief executive officer, Antony Turner said the company has provided visualisation and animation for a whole range of science including for the United Nations (UN).

“Anything that is invisible, we have a go at it, and challenging ones, we focus on blue carbon and natural sequestration,” he said during a webinar on ‘Visualising Blue Carbon Emissions and Sequestration’ livestreamed via Zoom on Wednesday (Dec 13).

Meanwhile, Real World Visuals UK creative director Dr Adam Nieman said there are two types of audiences for data visualisation; pull audience and push audience.

In terms of pull audience, he said the audience has prior questions on the data of their own while push audience has no prior questions of their own.

Adam added that pull audience also tends to own the data while push audience has no connection with the data.

“For pull audience, the quantity in the data feels real but for push audience, they think that the quantity is understood to be real, but doesn’t feel real.

“In data visualisation, the approach of pulling the audience involves allowing them to see the referenced reality through abstract graphics, fostering a deeper connection with the underlying data.

“Conversely, pushing the audience in data visualisation involves presenting abstract graphics without directly referencing the underlying reality, challenging viewers to interpret and derive meaning solely from the visual elements,” said Adam.

About 70 people  participated in the webinar moderated by Dr Waseem Razzaq Khan of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
