KUCHING: The site of the former Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) will be handed over within two months for the establishment of the Sarawak Performing Arts Centre.

Minister for Tourism, Creative Industy and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that renovation work on the building’s infrastructure would commence promptly.

He mentioned that the urgency for the project was emphasised by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“Once operational, industry players can utilise this platform to showcase their talents. We anticipate various benefits from this facility, including increased employment and business opportunities for the public,” he said during the book launch of Sarawak Folktales for All at the Baitulmakmur II Building here on Friday (Jan 19).

Abdul Karim added that the design of the art centre would be unveiled during the upcoming handover ceremony.

In another development, he disclosed that his ministry had secured an allocation of RM10mil, earmarked specifically for the Easy Fund for Heritage, Art and Culture.
