MIRI: A man was surprised to see a monitor lizard (biawak) about one-metre long in the kitchen of his house at Piasau here yesterday morning. The reptile was found moving around in search for food before the 40-year-old man contacted the Mir i Civil Defence Force (APM).

Officer in charge of Miri APM, Captain Mohd Hazle Shah Abdul Hamid said the depar tment received a disress call at 10.48am before an ambulance with three APM members was dispatched to the house.

“The APM members arrived at the house at 11.10 am and managed to catch the reptile within 15 minutes using a special equipment before it was put in a cage,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Mohd Hazle added that the operation was over at 11.24am while the monitor lizard was taken to Miri APM office for further action.
