PADAWAN: Police have arrested a local man suspected to be involved in an armed group riot along Jalan Batu Kawa recently.

On Tuesday (Feb 6), authorities discovered a viral video on Telegram, depicting a group of six to seven men armed with sharp objects and metal rods engaged in a riot.

The video garnered about 52,000 views.

In the video clip, it showed the group entering a house compound and causing damage to vehicles and other property.

Padawan police chief Supt Abidin Abang Ahmad confirmed they had received a report from a woman on the incident on Feb 4.

No injuries were reported, and the motive behind the riot remains under investigation.

“Yesterday (Feb 7), the Padawan Criminal Investigation Division (CID) tracked down and arrested one suspect, a man in his 20s.

“The suspect will be remanded at the Kuching Court to facilitate investigations.

“Meanwhile, we will intensify our search for the remaining suspects, with assistance from the Sarawak CID D7 branch,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting and Section 427 of the same code for committing mischief and damage to property.

Abang Zainal urged the public to trust in the police’s ability to enforce the law and encouraged them to provide any information that could aid in solving reported criminal cases.
