KUCHING: The Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Ministry reveals that the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) and Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) had agreed to offer a one-year free rental to small and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs) for the use of its address for business registration.

Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the offer was to cushion the financial stress among SMEs yet to apply for a business licence.

“We recognise that one of the main challenges faced by our SMEs is they do not have a permanent premises address.

“Therefore, businesses that do not have their own premises but need an address in the application, SEDC through the Incubator and Entrepreneur Guidance Centre (PIBU) and SMA through the Tegas Digital Innovation Hub, entrepreneurs can use our two strategic partners’ address to register their business and trade licence,” she said at the Business Licensing Programme for Sarawak Women Entrepreneurs (#PUWaS) at Wisma Wanita here yesterday.

Fatimah hoped this would encourage unregistered entrepreneurs to register their business.

“SEDC’s address rental fee is RM100 per year while SMA charges RM150 per year.”

She also advised entrepreneurs to play their role by preparing their own capital to ensure that their business is legitimate.

“For business registration and trading licences, the agencies involved will collect fees based on the items requested by the entrepreneurs.

“The entrepreneurs need to prepare fees for registration amounting to RM50, trading licence RM25 and business name and signature RM12, which brings the total fees to RM87, to Inland Revenue Board,” she added.
